UNLV's Kevin Penner grew up in Sammamish, Wash. He played high school golf at nearby Eastlake High and has played the Sahalee CC course many times.
Penner is enjoying a happy homecoming, leading the Sahalee Players Championship after two rounds.
He shot 66-69 in two rounds Thursday and is at 10-under 206 for the tournament, one shot ahead of Washington star Chris Williams, who is trying to become the first person to win the event twice. Williams won the tournament last year while Penner finished T-4.
First-round leader Tain Lee is T-3 along with Dimitrios Papadatos at 7 under. Beau Hossler is in fifth at 4 under.
