HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Blake Messer made the most of the weather-shortened final round at the AJGA's Under Armour/Jeff Overton Championship, firing a 5-under 31 to force a sudden-death playoff with three others and taking home the title on Thursday at the par-71 Ledges course.

Messer knocked off overnight leader John Yi, 18-hole leader Charlie Flowers and Jared O'Kelley in the playoff.

Scheduled to be a 54-hole event, the boys were only able to play 45 regulation holes after a four-and-a-half hour delay because of rainstorms.

“I hit the ball wonderfully during the whole tournament,” Messer said, “but I couldn't get the putter working. I got lucky because I finished before the rain delay yesterday so I didn't have to wait or anything. I started playing and was three under through the first four holes, and I realized I had a shot at tying for the winning spot.”

On the girls side, Lindsey Weaver made her last AJGA tournament count, firing a final-round, 5-under 66 to clear Janie Jackson by three shots. The two were tied after the first and second rounds.

I hit a lot of greens this week,” Weaver said, “my irons were working really well for me this week. I knew I was playing well the past three days and I had to play well today. Janie is a great player, and she's tough to beat.”
