Colleton River Plantation to host 2015 U.S. Junior Am
Colleton River Plantation Club has hosted eight USGA qualifiers since 2005.
Now it will get it’s first USGA championship after the USGA announced Tuesday that the club’s Pete Dye Course will serve as the site of the 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur.
“Renowned architect Pete Dye has often said this is the best course he has ever designed,” said Thomas J. O’Toole Jr., USGA vice president and championship committee chairman. “It will test the players’ skill and help identify the best junior golfer in the United States.”
It will be the first time since 1979 that the state of South Carolina has hosted a U.S. Junior. South Carolina hosted the 1979 tournament at Moss Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island and the 1963 tournament at Florence Country Club.
“I know I speak for our membership in expressing our delight and pride in Colleton’s selection by the USGA for this great event,” said Rob Norton, the club’s president. “We look forward to hosting all those who will participate in many different roles in 2015.”
The Pete Dye Course, a links-type course, opened in 1998. It has hosted two USGA qualifiers this year, including a U.S. Open local qualifier and a U.S. Amateur qualifier.
