A month after making her professional debut at the Wegmans LPGA Championship later this month, recent Wake Forest graduate Cheyenne Woods will participate in her second LPGA major: the U.S. Women’s Open. Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, qualified May 30 at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, N.C., for the Open.

Woods, who will play Wegmans on a sponsor exemption, shot 2-over 146 (74-72) at Women’s Open sectional qualifying to tie North Carolina sophomore Katherine Perry for medalist honors. Rinko Mitsunaga also advances from that site. Because of weather delays, the 36-hole one-day qualifier stretched over two days.

Other notable members of the class of 2012 to qualify for the Women’s Open include Alabama’s Brooke Pancake, also a member of the U.S. Curtis Cup team, UCLA’s Brianna Do and South Carolina’s Katie Burnett.

Those players will be joined by underclassmen such as Michigan State’s Christine Meier, Virginia’s Briana Mao and Brittany Altomare, Princeton’s Kelly Shon, USC’s Doris Chen and LSU’s Tessa Teachman. Notable juniors include Jisoo Park, Lindsay Weaver, Megan Khang, Hannah O’Sullivan, Annie Park and Emma Talley.

Just one of the 19 sectional qualifiers remains to be played: June 3 at last year’s Women’s Open site, The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.
