PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- It will be Goliath vs. Goliath on Sunday after Alabama eliminated California and Texas ousted Oregon on Saturday at the NCAA Championship.

(In case you missed our preview package, Rounds 1-3 and first day of match-play coverage, check it out here)

Our four gurus on the ground at Riviera Country Club - Ryan Lavner, Lance Ringler, Sean Martin and Ron Balicki - kept you up-to-date on how the championship battle was molded Saturday in southern California.

And off we go!

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 6:43 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: With a birdie on No. 18 from Julio Vegas, Texas wins 3-2.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 6:37 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Texas' Julio Vegas hits his ball 40 yards past Oregon's Andrew Vijarro on the 18th hole. Length runs in the family.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 6:20 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Oregon's Andrew Vijarro and Texas' Julio Vegas are all square through 16. Vegas reaches the 17th green in two. Vijarro lays up, hits it to four feet but misses. Vegas is 1 up going to the 18th. He will win it for Texas if he halves 18.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 6:04 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Texas' Cody Gribble knocks his approach shot to two feet on No. 17. He made it to close out Oregon's Jonathan Woo. Texas has won the first two matches. Oregon leads 1 up in the final two matches, while the third match is all square.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:55 p.m. EDT

Alabamaba wins 3-2 over Cal, with Cory Whitsett, Scott Strohmeyer and Hunter Hamrick winning their respective matches.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 5:34 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Texas, which led four matches against Oregon on the back nine, now trails Oregon 2-1-2.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:32 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Alabama's Hunter Hamrick is 1 up playing the 18th hole. He just needs a halve to send Alabama to the finals.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 5:28 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: The Texas-Oregon match is getting tight. Eugene Wong has led Jordan Spieth for much of the day, but some other matches are currently up in the air. Texas, which once led 4-1, now leads 2-1-2. Two matches are all square: Texas' Cody Gribble against Oregon's Jonathan Woo (through 14 holes) and Texas' Cody Gribble against Oregon's Andrew Vijarro (through 12). Oregon may need to win both of those to advance to Sunday's final.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:27 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Pace Johnson's 12-foot putt slides by on the right and he loses 1 up to Scott Strohmeyer. Alabama needs one more match to win.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:20 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: On hole No. 18, Cal's Pace Johnson gets an incredibly lucky break. His ball rattles in the right trees and kicks right, into an opening. He hits it to 12 feet. Alabama's Scott Strohmeyer faces a birdie chip.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:15 p.m. EDT

FROM RON BALICKI: Alabama’s No. 2-ranked Justin Thomas lost his match to California’s Max Homa, 2 and 1. Cory Whitsett then gave the Tide its first point as he defeated Cal’s Brandon Hagy, 3 and 1.

In the three matches still on the course, Alabama leads in two and California in one.

This semi could easily come down to the 18th hole of the final match between Hunter Hamrick of Alabama and Joel Stalter of Cal.

Bottom line – some pretty exciting stuff going on out there today at Riviera.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:10 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Alabama's Scott Strohmeyer and Cal's Pace Johnson each make par. Their match goes to the 18th hole with Strohmeyer 1 up.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 5:00 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: For Alabama, this match comes down to Scott Strohmeyer and Hunter Hanrick, both of whom hold 1-up leads.

With Cal in trouble on the par-5 17th, Strohmeyer walks all the way up to the green to assess his chances. He has a wedge left into the 17th green, which he hits to 15 feet. Cal's Pace Johnson has an impossible flop shot from 30 yards.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 4:35 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: The 10th hole always makes for entertaining viewing. Oregon's Daniel Miernicki is one of the longest players in the field but lost the drivable par 4 after hitting his tee shot into a poor position in the right of the rough. His second shot rolled over the green and Texas' Dylan Frittelli, who laid up on the tee, won with an easy par to go 1 up.

On the same hole, Eugene Wong's tee shot ended up behind eucalyptus trees across the 11th fairway, some 75 yards from the hole. Wong's approach fell five yards short of the green, but he chipped in for birdie. Texas' Jordan Spieth, who'd driven just short of the green, had to hole a five-footer just to halve the hole. Wong is 3 up.

Texas leads in four matches but is 1 up in three of them. Oregon needs to turn two of those into victories to win.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 4:06 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Alabama's Justin Thomas loses the 14th hole after failing to get up and down from the right side of the green. He's now 1 down in his match against Cal's Max Homa.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4); Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 3:56 p.m. EDT

FROM RON BALICKI: Not quite panic time just yet, but the top two players in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings are going to need to kick things up a notch the rest of the way.

No. 1, Texas freshman Jordan Spieth, is 2 down after five holes in his match against Oregon’s Eugene Wong.

No. 2, Alabama freshman Justin Thomas, just lost the 12th hole and is 1 down to California’s Max Homa.

Meanwhile, Alabama and California stand 2-2-1 in their match, while Texas is 3-1-1 against Oregon.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 3:46 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Oregon's Eugene Wong came to play. A 20-footer for birdie on No. 6 put him 3 up on Texas' Jordan Spieth.

Overall however, Texas leads 3-1-1.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 3:45 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Max Homa's ball on the 13th hole is lost, so it's back to the tee for him – this hole is as good as lost.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 3:40 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Another big swing from Max Homa, who makes a par on the 12th hole, while Justin Thomas, fooled by the break of the green, jacks his 20-foot putt to the right. He yells, "left!" when the ball should have broken the other way.

Homa, 1 up through 12, hits his drive on 13 into trees on the left. There's now a search brigade for the ball.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 3:30 p.m. EDT

FROM RYAN LAVNER: Incredible halve by Cal's Max Homa in his match against Alabama's Justin Thomas. On the par-5 11th hole, Homa drove the ball left, nearly on the range, punched out, hit up by the green, flopped to 25 feet and buried the par putt. This match, which is all square, is pivotal for Alabama.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 3:18 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Oregon's Eugene Wong is now 2 up through three against Texas' Jordan Spieth in a match between first team All-Americans. Best description of Eugene Wong I've heard this week: "He looks like he just rolled out of bed." The husky Canadian always has a wrinkled, untucked shirt and wears a khaki bucket hat. He can play, though. He was the 2010 Jack Nicklaus Award winner and 2012 Pac-12 Player of the Year.

Dylan Frittelli of Texas and Daniel Miernicki of Oregon are also first teamers who are dueling in this Texas-Oregon tussle.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 3:08 p.m. EDT

FROM SEAN MARTIN: Texas' Julio Vegas is a miniature version of his older brother, PGA Tour winner Jhonattan, but you can see similarities in their swings and big hands that envelop the grip of the clubs.

• • •

Texas (3) vs. Oregon (7): 2:55 p.m. EDT

All five matches have begun. Oregon is 1 up over Texas, as Robbie Ziegler and Eugene Wong are winning their matches.

Texas' Cody Gribble is 1 up through 4 in his match against Oregon's Jonathan Woo, while the matches between Texas' Dylan Frittelli and Oregon's Daniel Miernicki, and Texas' Julio Vegas and Oregon's Andrew Vijarro are both all square.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 2:35 p.m. EDT

After a birdie on the sixth hole, Cal's Brandon Hagy is all square through seven in his match with Alabama's Cory Whitsett.

Alabama is 3 up against Cal, with two matches all square.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 2:05 p.m. EDT

With Justin Thomas, Cory Whitsett, Scott Strohmeyer and Bobby Wyatt each 1 up in their respective matches, Alabama leads over Cal. The match between Cal's Joel Stalter and Alabama's Hunter Hamrick is all square through one hole.

• • •

Alabama (1) vs. California (4): 1:38 p.m. EDT

Four of the five matches have began. Alabama's Cory Whitsett is 1 up through two holes in his match with Cal's Brandon Hagy, while the other three matches are all square.
