Paul Goydos has pulled out of Monday U.S. Open qualifying because his injured left wrist is still not ready to go.

Goydos, 47, had a bone spur that was irritating a tendon removed at the famed Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic near Los Angeles in mid-March with hopes of trying to qualify for the U.S. Open as his return to competitive golf.

After eight round of golf in Florida, Goydos knew he wasn’t ready yet.

“I can play 36 holes, but its not competitive golf,” Goydos said. “I can play and I can hit shots, but I can’t hit all the shots, and I’m a long ways, health-wise, from being able to compete. “

Still rehabbing his wrist, Goydos was unsure when he would return having already applying for a medical extension, but did not discount the possibility he would not return during the 2012 season.

“I still have some tingling around the deal, but I’ve still got to go back to the doctor and get re-diagnosed,” Goydos said of his immediate future. “I think we’ve fixed part of the problem but I don’t know if we’ve fixed all of it. We’re still very much up in the air.”
