Guthrie, Rodgers, Spieth to play John Deere
Recent Illinois graduate Luke Guthrie, along with freshmen Patrick Rodgers of Stanford and Jordan Spieth of Texas, have earned sponsor exemptions to play in the John Deere Classic.
The tournament will take place July 9-15 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
“The John Deere Classic embraces and takes pride in its role as a tournament that is able to provide playing opportunities for young, talented players, and we’re very excited with the outstanding group we have invited this year,” tournament director Clair Peterson said in a release.
Guthrie turned pro last month and finished T-19 at the St. Jude Classic last weekend in Memphis, where he was also playing on a sponsor exemption. He shot 3-under to finish six shots behind winner Dustin Johnson and earn his first pro paycheck of $67,872.
Spieth and Rodgers will play as amateurs.
