Denlinger holds strong at Monroe Invitational
Friday, June 15, 2012
David Denlinger, a senior at Charleston Southern, maintained his commanding first-round lead at the Monroe Invitational, following an opening-round 64 with a second-round 71 at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y. Denlinger is at 5-under 135 for the tournament.
Denlinger still hasn’t recorded a disaster hole at the Monroe, but Thursday’s scorecard was decidedly more colorful than the previous day’s. Denlinger had seven bogeys in the second round along with six birdies. In Round 1, he had seven birdies and a single bogey.
The rest of the leaderboard fluctuated behind Denlinger on Thursday. Four players trail him by three shots: including Thomas Pieters (Illinois), Anders Albertson (Georgia Tech), Bruce Woodall (Virginia) and David Erdy (Indiana). Albertson shot the best score of the second round, a 5-under 65.
The leaderboard remains tight after that foursome, with three more players tied for sixth at 1 under. The tournament concludes Saturday.
