Monday, June 25, 2012
Nicklaus Cos. announced the creation of Nicklaus-China, a partnership designed to provide "turn-key" assistance to developers building golf course and residential projects in China.
The new initiative also will aim to grow the Nicklaus brand outside of design and development projects in the Asian market. It marks an evolution of Nicklaus Design, which continues to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.
Nicklaus Design has 84 courses open for play in the region, including 19 in China. The company also has 12 courses under development and another 10 projects in planning stages in China.
“As a player and then designer, my goal has always been to grow the game around the world,” Nicklaus said. "We have witnessed the passion and enthusiasm for golf in China, but we have also observed a need and desire for assistance in every aspect of the development process. A quality golf experience only begins with the design process, and developers in China are looking for leadership and expertise in the golf and real estate arenas."
Dr. Guang Yang, chairman and CEO of Finergy Capital, a private equity firm based in Beijing, is the partner in Nicklaus-China. Nicklaus-China will be based in Beijing and feature a staff versed in course design, development, construction, sales and marketing, agronomy and operations management.
