LPGA moves Nichols into Symetra Tour role

Monday, June 25, 2012

The LPGA named Mike Nichols as chief business officer of the Symetra Tour. Nichols will oversee the developmental tour’s strategic plan, budget, sales, marketing, owned events, corporate sponsorships and tournament-partner relationships.

Nichols, 41, has served as vice president of tournament business affairs at the LPGA since 2006 and was the primary point of contact at 10-plus LPGA events. Before the LPGA, he was championship director of the 2005 U.S. Senior Open in Dayton, Ohio. He received a degree in economics from Middlebury College in 1993 and a Masters in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla., in 1995.

Nichols’ appointment comes after Zayra Calderon transitioned out of her role as CEO of the Symetra Tour. Calderon sold the tour to the LPGA in 2007 and helped it grow into a legitimate feeder system for the LPGA. There are 10 LPGA cards up for the grabs this season.
