Toy Box: Tour players get look at Titleist 913
As PGA Tour players arrived June 25 for the AT&T National, they were greeted by the new Titleist 913 driver line.
“We’ll be showing and testing the driver with 20 to 25 players,” said Chris McGinley, Titleist’s vice president of golf club marketing. “We’re not sure how many of them might use it in the tournament.”
The 913 driver line won’t be available to consumers until November. The price has not been announced.
What’s the difference between the 913 and its predecessor, the 910?
“It has a faster face,” said McGinley, talking about more distance on offcenter hits. “The face insert has a new design and a different construction.”
In addition, the center of gravity has been moved slightly lower in the 913 line for less spin. The color is darker than that of the 910 (black and smoke gray, with what McGinley called “a racier look”).
The driver line will feature the SureFit adjustable hosel and will be available in the D2 and D3 models like the 910.
The 913 line also will include fairway woods and hybrids. These will appear on Tour in August, but won’t reach retail until February 2013.

Leishman carries mostly Titleist: Marc Leishman won his first PGA Tour title at the Travelers Championship playing a bag with 13 clubs from Titleist.
His bag: 910D3 driver (7.5 degree), 910F 3-wood (13.5 degree), Mizuno FLI-HI 2-hybrid, AP2 irons (3-4), MB irons (5-9), Vokey Design Spin Milled wedges (48; TVD 54 and 58), Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Select T10 putter. He played a Titleist Pro V1x ball.

Willett wins first with Callaway: Danny Willett won the European Tour’s BMW International Open for his first tour title. He carried a bag full of Callaway gear.
The bag: Razr Hawk prototype driver (9.5 degree), Razr Fit fairway wood (15.5 degree), X Utility prototype hybrid (21 degree), Razr X Muscleback irons (4-9), X Forged wedges (48, 52, 56 and 60 degree), Odyssey Black Series i No. 1 putter. He played a Callaway Hex Black Tour ball.

Hand-me-down driver, sort of: At the Travelers Championship, Danny Lee used a Callaway Razr Fit Udesign driver (8.5 degree with blue head color) that was built for 2011 champion Fredrik Jacobson. Because Jacobson wasn’t quite ready to change his Razr Fit driver (8.5 degree), Callaway tour reps gave the new one to Lee.
Alas, Lee missed the 54-hole cut, while Jacobson tied for eighth.

Lumpy’s belly putter: After much experimentation, Tim Herron is anchoring his TaylorMade Ghost Spider putter against his left forearm. The putter specs: 40 inches in length, with 4 degrees of loft.

No diggers allowed: Sean O’Hair has switched to TaylorMade RBZ irons from TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB (muscleback) irons, saying he likes having a “little more bounce” on the sole design to prevent digging of the leading edge into the turf.
The sole of the RBZ irons is more rounded than that of the MB irons, an indication of more bounce.

Short shots: Both Leishman and Willett wore FootJoy FJ Icon golf shoes. . . . At the Travelers Championship, Aldila won the official counts for total wood shafts and hybrid shafts.
