It seems only fitting that a Scot would take the No. 1 seed at the Ladies British Amateur. After a second-round 3-under 69 at Carnoustie Links in Angus, Scotland – and a scorecard playoff with Celine Boutier – Sally Watson earned that honor.

Watson, a senior at Stanford, shot the lowest second-round score of any player in the 144-woman field on Wednesday, finishing at 3-under 141 with Boutier. That was five shots clear of the next closest player. Watson then won a scorecard player to take the No. 1 seed in match play, which begins June 28.

Watson made four birdies and one bogey on a rainy day at Carnoustie, making up considerable ground on first-round co-leader Boutier. Meanwhile Boutier, a Duke commit, fell back to the pack with bogeys coming in at Nos. 15 and 16.

GB&I Curtis Cupper Amy Boulden finished third with Daniela Holmqvist and first-round co-leader Giulia Molinaro. Two more GB&I team members, Bronte Law and Holly Clyburn, finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
