Sunday, July 1, 2012

Lauren Taylor of Woburn, who, as a 16-year-old, was the youngest winner ever of the Ladies’ British Amateur last year, was defeated in the first match-play round at Carnoustie by Spain’s Patricia Sanz Barrios, 2 and 1.

Top seed Sally Watson was defeated on the 18th hole by Emilee Taylor.

"Emilee has an excellent short game," said Sally. "Several times she was able to halve or win holes by getting up and down from the fairway or off the green."

Curtis Cup team member Kelly Tidy, of Royal Birkdale, this year's English women's amateur champion, beat Germany's Vicki Troeltsch 3 and 2.

Perrine Delacour, France's winner of the 2009 British girls championship at West Lancs, defeated Kerry Smith of Waterlooville, 6 and 5.
