Preus (NR, 2013) commits to Texas
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Kalena Preus of Honolulu has given a verbal commitment to Texas, the No. 1 men’s program in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. Preus will become a Longhorn in the fall of 2013.
Preus also took unofficial visits to USC, Arizona State, Pepperdine, Florida and UCLA. He said that he chose Texas because of the coaches, academics, golf and workout facilities and team chemistry.
“I immediately made a connection with Coach John Fields and Coach Ryan Murphy the minute I stepped on campus,” Preus said. “After the time spent at UT and in Austin, I knew this was hands down the right choice for me.”
Preus played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur, and was runner-up at last year’s Hawaii State Amateur. He was a member of the 2010 and ’11 Punahou School golf teams that won the Hawaii State High School Championships.
