San Diego State pulled off a minor upset on Saturday, holding off UNLV by a shot to win the National Invitational Tournament on the par-72 OMNI Tucson National in Arizona.

It was SDSU's third straight win, having taken both the North Ranch Intercollegiate and Callaway Farms Invitational titles.

The Aztecs rode great opening rounds of 282-284 and then held on after a dismal 5-over 293 to finish things up. The Runnin' Rebels, fresh off a victory at Southern Highlands, were done in by a second-round 2-over 290.

SMU finished four shots back in third place, while BYU finished fourth (10 shots back) and Memphis was fifth (12 shots back).

San Diego State's J.J. Spaun won medalist honors, firing rounds of 67-66-68 to finish at 15 under, four shots ahead of BYU's Zachary Blair. Jonathan Fly of Memphis, Kevin Penner of UNLV, Marc Sambol of SMU and Justin Keiley of BYU were T-3 at 2 under.
