STATESBORO, Ga. -- The Alabama men’s team rebounded quite well from a disappointing weekend in Las Vegas. Instead of dwelling on their tie for ninth place March 9-11 at the Southern Highland Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, the Crimson Tide players took out their frustration on the golf course this past weekend with a wire-to-wire victory at the Schenkel Invitational.

Four Alabama players finished in the top 5 – all at 10 under or better – as the Tide posted a school- and tournament-record 47-under 817 total March 18 at the par-72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club. Alabama, which entered the event No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, won by 22 strokes over 26th-ranked Virginia and were 30 shots better than No. 2 Auburn and No. 24 Florida.

Alabama’s rounds of 268-269-280 combined to break the old school record of 42 under par set at the 2007 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, and also broke the Schenkel Record by eight strokes.

“I’m really proud of the guys this weekend,” Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. “Forty-seven under par – that is some pretty good golf. We had a rough tournament in Las Vegas, and from the time we got out of the van this week at the Schenkel, you could just see a different look in their eye. We learned some valuable lessons, got back to competing and did a great job.”

Virginia’s Ben Kohles captured medalist honors with an 18-under 198 (65-66-67), three shots ahead of Auburn’s Blayne Barber (66-67-68). Alabama players occupied the next four spots on the leaderboard: Justin Thomas and Cory Whitsett tied for third at 12-under 204, and Hunter Hamrick and Bobby Wyatt tied for fifth at 10-under 206.
