SAN DIEGO – The USC women's team won the Battle at Rancho Bernardo on Tuesday with a final team score of 14-over 590, two shots ahead of runner-up Arizona State. It’s the first title of the season for the Trojans, No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. The team’s previous best finish this season was a second place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.

Rounding out the top five were Texas A&M, which was six shots behind USC, followed by California at seven shots behind and Pepperdine and Tulane, which tied for fifth at 12 shots behind.

At 2-under 142 for the tournament, USC sophomore Sophia Popov was the medalist, garnering her fourth career win. She was joined in the top 10 by freshman teammate Doris Chen, who tied for ninth.

Texas A&M freshman Patricia Garcia came in second at even-par 144, followed by Miami senior Jennifer Hirano, who placed third at 1 over.
