Beau Hossler, the No. 2-ranked player in the 2013 class, has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Texas.
Hossler, who is No. 5 overall in the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings, made unofficial visits to Arizona State, USC, UCLA, Stanford, San Diego and Oklahoma State. Hossler had offers from UCLA, USC and Arizona State.
"I chose Texas because of the successful people that I will surround myself with, in golf, other athletics, and school," Hossler said. "The city of Austin provides so many opportunities for success and enjoyment. The perspective of Coach (John) Fields, Coach (Ryan) Murphy and the players on the team is exactly what I was looking for. Texas is the best place for me to challenge myself and reach my goals."
Hossler, who is a junior at Santa Margarita High School in Mission Viejo, Calif., qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open at age 16.
Last summer Hossler won the Callaway Junior World, advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Junior and tied for seventh at the PGA Junior. Hossler has won three AJGA tournaments.
