TUCSON, Ariz. – The San Diego State men's team successfully defended its Mountain West Conference Championship title, defeating runner-up TCU by five shots Sunday at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort.

The Aztecs, which entered at No. 15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, got top-5 finishes from Alex Kang (fourth) and Tom Berry (T-5) on their way to a 2-over 286 in the final round and an 8-under 844 total. They were joined by three other teammates in the top 20: J.J. Spaun (T-9), Matt Hoffenberg (12th) and Colin Featherstone (T-17).

TCU, ranked 42nd, trailed San Diego State by 10 shots heading into the final round and rallied with a 3-under 281 Sunday, but it wasn't enough to catch the Aztecs. No. 14 UNLV (final-round 282) and No. 16 New Mexico (288) tied for third at 1-under 851.

TCU senior Johan de Beer shot a final-round 66 to win the individual title with a 9-under 204 total, two strokes ahead of freshman teammate Julien Brun (68) and Colorado State's Zahkai Brown (68). It was de Beer's second career victory.
