Cole Madey of West Linn, Ore. and Haley Moore of Escondido, Calif. won the AJGA Junior All-Star at Cypress Ridge GC in Arroyo Grande, Calif. Cypress Ridge, one of 11 events in the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy Junior All-Star Series for boys and girls ages 12-15, is the first AJGA victory for both players.

Madey shot 4-under 140 (69-71) to win the boys division by two strokes over Eddy Lai, of San Jose, Calif. Madey was the leader going into the final round and clinched his victory with consecutive birdies on the final two holes.

Madey exhibited solid play, which included sinking a 20-foot putt on No. 16 to edge out Lai, who shot 2-under 142 (71-71).

“It is a great feeling to win at this level,” Madey said. “I have won a smaller national tournament, but it was not as competitive as this field. This is a pretty special national tournament.”

Moore shot 3-under 141 (71-70) to win the girls division by five shots over Karin Arimoto of Howey in the Hills, Fla, who shot 2-over 146 (75-71). Like Madey, Moore was also the leader going into the final round of the tournament.

Moore, whose final round included two consecutive birdies followed by an eagle, said, “This win feels great and gives me a lot of confidence going into the future.”
