Olazabal to use only 2 vice captains in Ryder Cup
FUNCHAL, Madeira — European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal plans to cut the number of vice captains to two for the title defense against the United States in September.
The Spaniard says that although U.S. captain Davis Love III likely will have four assistants, "It's a lot of headaches if you have more than two."
Paul McGinley looks certain to be one for the Sept. 28-30 biennial matches at Medinah Country Club near Chicago after Olazabal said he likes McGinley's handling of the past two Seve Trophy-winning sides.
Olazabal also says three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, who hasn't won on either side of the Atlantic in more than three years, needs to find form.
"For players like Harrington, the ball is still in his court," Olazabal said.
