Oglethorpe separated itself from the competition Wednesday, stretching its lead to 14 strokes after two rounds of the NCAA Division III men’s golf championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Stormy Petrels handled the tough El Campeon Course at Mission Inn, recording a 4-over 292 – the third best team score of the day.

Ten-time champion Methodist made a move, jumping from fourth to second. The top-ranked Monarchs sit at 15 over while Texas-Tyler and Guilford College share third place at 19 over.

Oglethorpe freshman Anthony Maccaglia shot a 1-under 71 to remain the individual leader. Maccaglia is 5 under for the championship and three strokes ahead of teammate Hayden Jones, Nebraska Wesleyan’s Drew Taylor and Brad Shigezawa of Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
