Cheyenne Woods to return to Wegmans as a pro
Cheyenne Woods, a recent Wake Forest graduate, will play her first tournament as a professional June 7-10 at the Wegmans LPGA Championship. It’s the second major of the LPGA season.
Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, will play Wegmans on a sponsor exemption. She also played this event in 2009 as an amateur but missed the cut. That was her first start in a professional tournament.
The Demon Deacons missed the NCAA Championship this year, ending Woods’ college career prematurely. Woods finished the season ranked No. 44 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. Wake Forest was No. 41.
Woods missed qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Open in 2011 by one shot, but advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links. She won two events during her college career, including the 2011 ACC Championship.
