Matt Mahanic, Huntingdon College men’s golf coach, was dismissed from his coaching duties on Friday after a profanity-laced rant he delivered to his team circulated around the Internet. Audio of Mahanic addressing his golf team after it finished 11th of 12 teams at the Gordin Classic went viral on Deadspin on Friday morning. According to the accompanying article, the audio was taken by one of Mahanic's players in the team bus.

Huntingdon announced Mahanic’s dismissal in a statement on its website Friday afternoon.

“As a member of Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, we adhere to the principles expressed in the NCAA Bylaws,” said Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West. “To quote the Bylaws, ‘Individuals employed by or associated with a member institution to administer, conduct, or coach intercollegiate athletics shall act with ... sportsmanship at all times so that intercollegiate athletics as a whole, their institutions and they, as individuals, represent the honor and dignity of fair play and the generally recognized high standards associated with wholesome competitive sports.’”

Huntingdon is a Methodist school in Montgomery, Ala., that competes at the Division III level. After the Gordin Classic, Huntingdon finished 12th of 18 teams at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational.
