Georgia cruises to 14-shot win at Brickyard Collegiate

Georgia shot a final-round 280 to post a 14-shot victory over in-state rival Georgia Tech at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship in Macon, Ga.

The Bulldogs, which entered the event at No. 5 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, finished at 16-under 848. Georgia Tech, coming off a co-victory with No. 1 Cal at the Ping-Golfweek Preview, finished at 2 under.

Georgia State’s Jonathan Grey (72-67-69) and Georgia’s Sam Straka (75-69-64) shot 8-under 208 to share the individual title. Straka was playing as an individual. Georgia’s Nicholas Reach shot a final-round 69 to finish one shot back, while Georgia freshman Lee McCoy finished at 6 under par after a final-round 68.

North Florida finished third in the team standings with a 1-over 865 total. Chattanooga, which was playing without U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox, shot the final round’s low score, an 11-under 277, to tie Virginia Tech for fourth. Fox was at the World Amateur Team Championship, where he partnered with Chris Williams and Justin Thomas to win the team title.
