Washington, Kim claim historic titles at home event

Washington continued its season of firsts on Oct. 10 with a victory at its home event, the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
The Huskies are the top-ranked team in Golfweek’s College Rankings, which is news head coach Mary Lou Mulflur broke to her team last week for the first time in her 30-year career at Washington. The team won its first event of the season at the Oregon State Invitational and finished runner-up to Arizona at the Windy City Collegiate before heading home for the Edean Ihlanfeldt.
Washington took the first-round lead at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash., with a 5-over 293. The team shot another 293 in Round 2, then held off UC Davis and Stanford in the final round, finishing at 22-over 886. Oregon was four shots back and Stanford was another five shots back, followed by UC Irvine and Oregon in a tie for fourth at 54-over 918.
Washington sophomore SooBin Kim lapped the field with an 11-under 205 total. She shot back-to-back rounds of 67 to close the event. Playing as an individual, Kim was the first Huskie to win the Edean Ihlanfeldt since 1996. UC Irvine’s Michelle Park, Washington teammate Charlotte Thomas and Stanford’s Sally Watson were 12 shots back in a tie for second.
