Sunday, October 28, 2012
Mississippi State broke a nearly four-year winless streak Sunday with a victory at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. The Bulldogs last claimed a team title at the 2009 Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Mississippi State entered the final round at Grandover Resort’s East course in Greensboro, N.C., one shot behind leader Chattanooga. The Bulldogs quickly overtook Chattanooga on Sunday, and posted a final-round 1-over 289 for a 3-under 861 total. Chattanooga finished at 1-over 865.
“It was a great feeling for our guys to pick up the win today at the Bridgestone,“ head coach Clay Homan said of the Bulldogs come-from-behind win. “We needed a taste of victory before the fall season finished and it was nice to give our guys a little motivation going into the spring slate.”
Iowa State was third, one shot behind Chattanooga. Mississippi, Virginia Tech and North Carolina State tied for fourth another 20 shots back.
Chattanooga’s Chris Robb won the individual title with a 9-under 207. Mississippi State’s Axel Boasson was runner-up at 8-under 208.
