Oklahoma State wins Royal Oaks Intercollegiate

No. 16 Oklahoma State won the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Oct. 30, the Cowboys' first victory since the 2011 NCAA Colorado Regional. The Cowboys finished at 10-under 842, four shots ahead of No. 5 New Mexico and 41st-ranked Texas Tech. No. 6 SMU finished fourth, six shots behind Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State was led by Ian Davis, who was co-medalist with Iowa's Ian Vandersee. Both players shot final-round 71s to finish at 7-under 206 at Royal Oaks Golf Club in Dallas, Texas. Texas Tech's Finley Ewing IV finished third, one shot off the lead, after shooting a second-round 61.
Oklahoma State's Talor Gooch, the No. 1 player in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, tied for sixth at 4-under 209.
New Mexico shot the final day's low round, a 9-under 275, to move into second place. The Lobos received 68s from James Erkenbeck, Gavin Green and Victor Perez. Only one other team (Baylor, 279) broke 280 in the final round.
Missouri's Jace Long finished T-6, shooting 64-68 in the final two rounds after opening with a 6-over 77. Long was medalist at the first stage of PGA Tour Q-School in nearby Lewisville, Texas. That tournament ended Oct. 26, three days before the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate began.
