Jenkins (No. 71, 2013) commits to UNC-Greensboro
Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, N.C., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at North Carolina-Greensboro. Jenkins chose UNCG after making just one other unofficial visit, to North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Jenkins also received interest from a number of other schools, including Wake Forest and Virginia.
“When thinking about where to go to college, I knew I wanted to stay in North Carolina so that my family could see me play and so I could continue to work with my longtime swing coach,” Jenkins said. “I also wanted to play for a college coach who cares as much about his players as students as he (cares) about them as golfers. UNCG and Coach (Terrance) Stewart offer all of that and more. I am excited about becoming a Spartan.”
Jenkins, who attends Leesville Road High School, tied for fourth place in stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Junior Amateur. He won the North Carolina Junior Championship and the Dogwood State Junior. His 16-under 197 total at the Dogwood broke the previous tournament scoring record, set by Virginia graduate Ben Kohles, by eight shots.
Jenkins also won a junior qualifier to earn a spot in the 2011 Web.com Rex Hospital Open as a 15-year-old. It made him the third-youngest person to play a Web.com event.
