Matthew Rachey of Waconia, Minn., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf for Minnesota. Rachey also made unofficial visits to Kansas, Iowa State, Colorado, Colorado State, Drake, Creighton, Nebraska, St. Thomas and Denver before making his decision.

“The University of Minnesota has a great business school with a unique college atmosphere,” Rachey said. “I really feel the Gopher golf program is a good fit and we will be competitive within the Big Ten and nationally. In addition, I really like Coach (John) Carlson, and I’m excited about playing on his team.”

Rachey was an all-state selection in 2011 and ’12 for Waconia High School and qualified for the 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur and ’12 Big I Tournament. Rachey was ninth at the 2011 AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks.
