No. 10 Stanford

2011-12 Golfweek/Sagarin rank: 9

Go-to guy: Patrick Rodgers

Season outlook: Stanford returns a lot of firepower from last year’s squad, which was among the nation’s elite teams during the regular season before underperforming down the stretch (6th at Pac-12 Championship and T-19 at NCAA Championship).

Leading the Cardinals is sophomore Patrick Rodgers, a Hogan Award finalist as a freshman, who led the team with 10 top 10s and a 70.7 stroke average. He’s expected to be one of the top players in the country again. Rodgers is joined by a slew of experienced players: All-American Andrew Yun, sophomores Patrick Grimes and Marcel Puyat, senior Steve Kearney, and junior Cameron Wilson, who has been slowed by back problems.

If the Cardinal can hold things together in the fall –Yun is taking the first quarter off to go through PGA Tour qualifying as an amateur – and build momentum along the way, they’ll have a shot when the postseason arrives. Rodgers and company are more than capable of holding things steady until Yun returns.
