7. Arkansas

2011-12 Golfweek/Sagarin rank: 12

Go-to guy: Sebastian Cappelen

Season outlook: Arkansas will look to rebound from last season’s disappointment of not reaching the NCAA Championship. The Razorbacks won seven times last season and that winning instinct should kick in again.

Arkansas does lose its leader in scoring average from last season, Ethan Tracy, but returns a solid group of experienced golfers. In addition to Sebastian Cappelen, a junior who was an honorable-mention All-American last season, returnees Austin Cook, Kolton Crawford, Josh Eure and Thomas Sorensen, who was third at the International Amateur, add experience for head coach Brad McMakin.

McMakin will have even more pieces to work with after bringing in arguably the best pair of recruits in the country, Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria. Moore played in this year’s U.S. Amateur and missed the cut along with Cappelen. He also was T-5 at the Rolex Tournament of Champions.

Echavarria has two semifinal appearances at the U.S. Junior Amateur, including this year when he also tied for stroke-play medalist honors. He’s the younger brother of former University of Florida standout Andres Echavarria.
