Rohrer leads 13th annual Special Olympics tournament

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. -- Scott Rohrer fired a 5-over 77 on Saturday afternoon on the Gold Course at the Wigwam Resort to extend his lead to 18 shots in the 18-hole individual stroke-play competition at the 13th annual Special Olympics North America Golf Invitational Tournament.

Playing in the Level V division (there are five levels of competition), Rohrer has carded rounds of 83-77. 2011 champ, Tyler Whitehurst, is in second place after rounds of 86-92.

Rohrer won the 2010 title behind rounds of 71-75-75 at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. to set both 18-hole and 54-hole individual records.

The final round takes place on Sunday.

In the 9-hole individual stroke-play competition (Level IV), John E. Stapleton fired a personal-best 43 to take a three-shot lead over Ian Swain. Stapleton has shot rounds of 50-43, while Swain has gone 47-49.

Kyle Bugge and Jake Hemelstrand fired an 88 in the 18-hole Unified Sports team-play competition (Level III) to take a nine-shot lead with their two-day total of 174. Jesse Pease and Keith Pease are in second place at 183.

In the 9-hole Unified Sports team-play competition, Brent Apo-Hruska and John Moen are tied with Chris Ringot and Terry Ringot at 89.

Shane Molovinsky scored 74 points in the individual skills competition (Level I) on Saturday and has a two-day total of 146. Stanley Frederick is second with 134.
