SUGAR GROVE, Ill. -- The Indiana men got their season off to a good start, notching a 15-shot victory Sunday at the Northern Intercollegiate. All five Hoosiers finished in the top 20, including top-5 finishes from seniors Michael McGee and Brant Peaper.

"It was a great team effort, and we got production up and down the lineup," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "Everyone did their part to get us this win."

The Hoosiers finished at 36-over 888 at par-71 Rich Harvest Farms. St. Mary's (Calif.) finished second at 51-over 903, followed by Liberty (905) and Purdue (908).

Virginia's Denny McCarthy won the individual title by three strokes, shooting a tournament-best 3-under 68 in the final round for a 3-over 216 total. McGee and Iowa State's Scott Fernandez tied for second at 219, followed by Peaper and Liberty's Chase Marinell in a tie for fourth at 220.

The Hoosiers finished last season No. 38 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
