Northwestern won its first event of the fall season on Tuesday at the Inverness Intercollegiate. This is the team’s first season-opening victory since the 2009 season, when the Wildcats won the Navy Fall Classic.
“Team wins!” Pat Goss, Northwestern's head coach and director of golf, tweeted after the tournament. “Unexpected and welcomed result. Very proud of our group today.”
Northwestern finished the 54-hole event at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, with a 16-over 868 total. Florida State, Kent State and North Texas finished nine strokes behind Northwestern in a tie for second. Liberty rounded out the top 5 with a 31-over 883.
Junior Jack Perry, who earned co-medalist honors alongside Kent State senior Kevin Miller, finished at 2-over 215. Senior Nicholas Losole and freshman Andrew Whalen were part of an eight-way tie for third at 216. Sophomore Matthew Negri (225) tied for 33rd, while Bennett Lavin (229) finished T-43.
