TaylorMade is building a 120,000-square-foot golf ball manufacturing plant in Liberty, S.C., designed to improve production and generate savings, company officials announced Wednesday.

The building is expected to open in January 2014, and will replace the company's existing facility, which is 28 miles away in Westminster, S.C.

According to TaylorMade, the 51-year-old plant produces 72,000 balls a day and more than 24 million balls each year. The new facility will be more energy efficient, reduce maintenance costs and lower unit production costs. TaylorMade expects to retain the 90 full-time employees who work in the current factory when it moves to the new building.
