Laird chooses rest over Masters Par-3 Contest

AUGUSTA, Ga. Martin Laird has a small traveling party at this year's Masters. That's what happens when you earn your invitation just four days before the tournament begins. Laird wasn't invited to the Masters until Sunday's victory at the Valero Texas Open.
"It's just myself, my wife (Meagan) and my caddie (Shay Knight) in the house I got," said Laird, a Scotland native. "No one else is really coming this week because it was such short notice and people can't get here and get off work. It will be a more relaxed, quieter Masters and maybe that will work out."
Laird opted not to play in Wednesday's Par-3 Contest, choosing to rest for Thursday's first round. This is his fifth-consecutive week of competition. He played nine holes Wednesday morning, then was headed for a brief practice session.
"The Par-3 is one of the most enjoyable parts of the week, but I have to rest and get ready for the real tournament," Laird said.
This is his third Masters appearance. He tied for 20th in 2011 and tied for 57th last year.
