Masters odds: After Round 1, Tiger still favorite

Tiger Woods hits a shot on the first hole during the first round of the 2013 Masters.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Tiger Woods is still the favorite, but not by as much as when Thursday’s first round started moving from 3/1 to 7/2 after a 2-under, 70, four shots off the lead of Marc Leishman and Sergio Garcia at the 77th Masters.

Four times Woods has opened with a 70 in 1997, 2001 and 2002, each of this times the World No. 1 went on to victory, but in 2009 after an opening round 70, Woods finished sixth.

In 1997 Woods was in fourth place, three shots off the lead of John Huston. And in 2002 Woods was three shots off the lead of David Love III and tied for seventh.

But in 2001, Woods was 15th and five shots off the lead of Chris DiMarco before winning his third green jacket.

“It was a good solid day,” Woods said of his opening round. “I hit the ball very solid today and lag putted pretty good today and I made a few here and there.”

In third place, Dustin Johnson is the closest pursuer at 8/1, according to the odds in Las Vegas. Johnson shot a 5-under, 67, his lowest score in 13 rounds at Augusta National and the first time he has broken 70 in the first round.

“I've played okay here in the past, just not great,” Johnson said. “Obviously not playing last year, and then coming back this year and getting a good round is really good. It feels good. I've been working hard on the game the last month or so.”

First round co-leader, Sergio Garcia is 10/1 after a first round 6-under, 66, only the fourth time in 15 appearances the Spaniard has broken 70 in the first round after

“Today was a nice day.” Garcia said. “It was one of those days that you really, really enjoy, and, you know, hopefully I'll have three more of those and we'll see what happens on Sunday night.”

Rory McIlroy who was 8/1 when the first round started fell to 20/1 after an even-par 72.

The other co-leader Australian Marc Leishman received little love from Vegas, at 40/1.
