Angel Cabrera during the playoff at the 2013 Masters.

Those who came close to winning the Masters spoke candidly after their rounds. Here's a sampling of their words after Sunday's final round at Augusta National:

ANGEL CABRERA

Asked if he felt unlucky when close putts didn't fall: Yeah, that's golf. Golf gives and takes. So yeah, sometimes you make those putts, sometimes you just miss them. But that's golf.

Asked if his experience as a Masters champion helped Sunday: Yeah, I had a lot of peace of mind and I was very confident. I knew that it depended on me. I knew that they can make some birdies, but I still was thinking that it depended on me.

Asked if Adam Scott's life will change much having won a major: Well, it's going to change quite a lot, his life. He's been looking for it, searching for it, this major title. He's achieved it, so I'm pretty sure his life is going to change really fast right now.

JASON DAY

Asked how much it hurts to come up just short: I love this tournament regardless of where I finish today. It's obviously an honor to come this week and play and play against the best players in the world and obviously have a shot at winning my first Major and being the first Australian to win the Masters. It's a little disappointing, but there's a lot of experience that I can take into next year and hopefully I can wear one of those green jackets soon.

Asked about smiling even when missing shots: I think that that's just a coping mechanism maybe. I think that if I smile and just try and enjoy myself, when I hit bad shots, I won't be so disappointed. I play better that way. It was just a few little mental errors here and there, but overall very, very happy about the way I played.

TIGER WOODS

Asked about the course, his answer included a mention of his target score for the day: I thought 65 would win it outright today. I thought that was going to be the number. And that may do it. Maybe 8 or 9 under. So who knows. If I would have shot my number, it might have been a different story.

Asked about a local newspaper's photo analysis that seemed to show his infamous drop might have been on the correct spot: I was behind it. . . . Yeah. . . . One, two yards. But it certainly was not as close as the rule says.

On struggling to gauge Augusta's greens this week: Yeah, I really struggled with the green speeds starting out. I couldn't believe how much slower they were even this is before it rained. I just couldn't believe how slow they were starting out. Because yesterday they were so fast and they were crusty, they were running out, and I think the first eight holes I didn't think I got a putt to the hole. Everything was short or low sided. So finally on 9 I said I'm going to hit this putt past the hole and it just snuck in on the front lip.

MARC LEISHMAN

Asked what he'll take away from his week at Augusta: Well, I know I can put it together for four rounds, probably a lot of guys didn't expect me to do what I did, and to do that was great. I didn't finish off the way I would have liked, but I have a lot of positives to take away from it.

THORBJORN OLESEN

Asked about rebounding from a first-round 78: Well, I didn't feel like I played bad enough to earn a 78 the first day. But this course is tough and if you get out of position, all of a sudden a big number can appear. But I didn't feel like I played that bad, so I just kept swinging the same way I did the first day and then it just started to happen the next three days.

BRANDT SNEDEKER

Asked if this year's final round differed greatly from his troubles in 2008: It's different. I'm not as crushed as I was in 2008 because I know I'm going to be there again. I know this golf course so well and I putted about as poorly as I could today and I still had a chance on the back nine. So I'm not . . . I'm very disappointed that I didn't win, but I realize that I'm not that far off from winning this thing. I'm going to do it soon.
