Tianlang Guan has again made the cut as an amateur in a pro event.

Lucas Glover took the lead with a 67 and Boo Weekley nearly kept up with a 68 this morning; their rounds set the pace for the afternoon groups that teed off just as their days ended, then held up during the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Guan began the day at even par and shot a 3-under 69 to barely make the cut. He averaged 262 yards off the tee but fared well from there to the hole.

Here's how it all unfolded Friday at TPC Louisiana:

• • •

Update 43: 7:59 EDT

Credit Luke List for moving the cut line to 3 under, the PGA Tour said in a social-media post from one of its Twitter accounts. Seventy pros and one amateur will play this weekend, with 3 under the required score.

• • •

Update 42: 7:11 EDT

Jason Kokrak ends his day with four straight pars, carding a 71 that takes him to 5 under.

Around the cut line, Charley Hoffman had a chance to get to 3 under but couldn't drop a birdie putt of about 12 feet. He'll await his fate with the other 25 golfers at 2 under – a group that, if it holds, would make the Saturday group two more than last week's record-tying 91.

• • •

Update 41: 7:01 EDT

Doug LaBelle II birdies No. 5 to move to 6 under with four holes to play; he's 4 under today. Kyle Stanley finishes with a par to post a 67, good for 5 under through two rounds.

Around the cut line, Rod Pampling birdies No. 7 to climb to 3 under – but back-to-back bogeys take Luke List down to 2 under and another moves D.H. Lee to that mark, moving that group to T-69 and improving the odds that the cut line remains on that score.

• • •

Update 40: 6:48 EDT

Everyone at 2 under can thank Ben Crane for laying up on No. 18, taking away one threat of moving the group to T-71. As it is, Crane joined them after wedging close and making his putt to put the wraps on a 68.

Some other players who could move the cut line to 3 under include Rod Pampling, 2 under with three holes to play; Jim Herman, 1 under with three to play; and Alistair Presnell, 1 under with five to play.

• • •

Update 39: 6:35 EDT

D.A. Points finishes with a par to hold steady alone in third place at 10 under, two behind leader Lucas Glover and one behind Boo Weekley.

Further back, Kyle Stanley is making a move with three birdies in four holes to get to 5 under with two holes to play. Jason Kokrak also is at 5 under, having steadied himself with two pars after a bogey at No. 14.

The group at 2 under, on the edge of the cut, has moved back to T-70 thanks in part to a birdie by Aaron Tompkins at No. 5.

• • •

Update 38: 6:22 EDT

D.A. Points birdies No. 8 to move into third place on his own at 10 under, one back of Boo Weekley with one hole to play today.

The cut line holds to 2 under, which is still good for T-69.

• • •

Update 37: 6:06 EDT

Bubba Watson goes for the par-5 No. 18 green in two and finds the front bunker. He gets up and down for birdie, giving him a 65 that should stand as the day's low round. Watson is T-11 at 6 under. Playing partner and defending champ Jason Dufner leaves a birdie putt on the high side to finish with a 71 that puts him at 3 under.

Around the cut line, Charley Hoffman bogeys No. 4 to fall to 1 under and move the 2-under group to T-69. Hoffman is even for the day through 13.

• • •

Update 36: 5:55 EDT

Fabian Gomez and Jeff Overton do all they can to secure their weekend tee times, birdieing the 18th to move to 3 under – and helping to put the 2-under group at T-70. Both wedged on in three and sank their putts.

• • •

Update 35: 5:46 EDT

The cut line continues to stand at 2 under, though that score – once good for a tie in the 50s – is now T-69. The afternoon field isn't putting up the fireworks from this morning, but it has inched the cut line toward 3 under at a slow, gradual pace.

One contributor: Monday qualifier Ken Looper, who birdied No. 10 to get to 4 under for the day and 3 under for the tournament. Looper, who played his college golf at New Orleans and LSU, has four birdies and six pars so far today.

Whereas last week a bogey by Jesper Parnevik let numerous golfers into weekend play, it seems more likely this week that a birdie could send numerous golfers packing for home.

• • •

Update 34: 5:38 EDT

Bubba Watson has the day's low round going, birdieing No. 16 to get to 6 under for the day. A string of five birdies in seven holes has carried him from two shots beneath the cut line to 5 under for the tourney.

Kevin Stadler climbs to 6 under with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 18-1 as he makes the turn.

• • •

Update 33: 5:21 EDT

D.A. Points moves into a tie for third with Morgan Hoffmann, birdieing No. 4 to get to 9 under with five holes to play. Points has scattered three birdies among a bogey-free day so far.

Stuart Appleby birdies No. 13 to move back inside the cut line at 2 under; it's been a roller-coaster day for the Australian but he's even par for the round.

• • •

Update 32: 5:06 EDT

Make it four birdies in five holes for Bubba Watson, who cards a 2 at the par-3 14th. He's 5 under for the day with four holes to play, 4 under for the tournament.

Jason Kokrak gives back a stroke with a bogey at No. 10, dropping him to 6 under.

• • •

Update 31: 4:59 EDT

Jason Kokrak rides four straight birdies to 7 under and T-6 to get into the mix. He barely misses a fifth birdie putt at No. 9, too. Nick Watney birdies No. 13 to quickly climb back to 7 under as well.

Despite flirting with missing the cut, Bubba Watson aims for the green on the dogleg, 403-yard par-4 13th hole. His ball finds a pot bunker well short of the green – from which he wedges to about 5 feet and makes the putt for birdie. Bubba golf.

• • •

Update 30: 4:42 EDT

Nick Watney, who's been carrying the flag for the afternoon golfers, bogeys No. 12 when he can't get up and down from a bunker. He's still 3 under for the day and 6 under for the tournament.

Ben Crane remains 4 under for the day with a par at No. 10; he's just inside the cut line at 2 under. D.A. Points is 8 under for the tournament, 2 under through 10 today.

A handful of players have indeed changed Tianlang Guan's position from T-41 at the time of his last birdie to T-45 – but it's starting to look like Guan should guarantee his hotel room for the weekend as the afternoon golfers in the middle of the pack have been slow to make enough of a move to shift the cut line.

• • •

Update 29: 4:31 EDT

Ben Crane finds three straight birdies on Nos. 7-9, getting to 4 under for the day and 2 under for the tournament as he makes the turn. Nick Watney pars No. 11 to remain 4 under for the day and 7 under for the tournament.

Vaughn Taylor was 4 under for the day at one point, but back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 3-4 have dropped him to 1 over for the tournament and three back of the projected cut line.

Meanwhile, it's a better day to be a past champ here. Defending champ Jason Dufner is 2 under today through 11, getting to 4 under. 2011 champ Bubba Watson has gone one better – he's 3 under today, getting to 3 under for the tournament and climbing above the cut line with seven holes to play.

• • •

Update 28: 4:18 EDT

Jason Kokrak posts back-to-back birdies at Nos. 5-6 to climb to 5 under, more than compensating for a bogey at the first.

Ricky Barnes, on the other hand, cards a double bogey at the par-3 No. 3 hole after hitting one into the water. The first-round leader has yet to earn a birdie today. He's 3 over for the round and 5 under for the tourney with six holes left to play.

Barnes' mishap at No. 3 leaves the top 20 spots in the leaderboard with only two afternoon golfers.

• • •

Update 27: 4:07 EDT

Nick Watney birdies again, his fourth of the day coming at No. 7, pushing him to 7 under and into the group that's T-6.

While plenty of golfers have scored low today, those in the middle of the pack are struggling to make much of a move – the cut line still stands at 2 under, good for T-57.

• • •

Update 26: 3:59 EDT

Among the big names quietly going about his business – and doing well – is Justin Rose. He followed Thursday's 68 with a 69, closing with seven straight pars. Rose is among the exempt players for the U.S. Open, which attracted a record number of entrants for this year's championship at Merion. Read more about the Open field here.

• • •

Update 25: 3:45 EDT

Bubba Watson is two strokes on the wrong side of the cut line through 8 holes, 1 under for the day after bogeying No. 1 then birdieing Nos. 2 and 6.

He's not the only notable still working to climb into weekend play: K.J. Choi and Ben Crane are also at even par for the tournament but under par for the day and still on their front nines, Choi 3 under through seven and Crane 2 under through five. Local favorite David Toms is 1 under for the day and the tournament, having played seven today.

• • •

Update 24: 3:33 EDT

Will the afternoon golfers be able to post the same kind of low scores the morning guys did? A few make it look like they can:

• Vaughn Taylor is the low man so far among the afternoon tee times, 4 under as he makes the turn (1 under for the tournament).

• Nick Watney is 3 under through seven (6 under).

• Jeff Overton is 3 under through nine (2 under).

• K.J. Choi is 3 under through seven (even).

• • •

Update 23: 3:27 EDT

D.A. Points cards his second birdie of the day to get to 8 under, T-4 with Ernie Els. Ricky Barnes finishes his first nine at 1 over, having played those holes at 6 under Thursday; it will be interesting to see if he can again go low during his second nine to get back near the lead.

Tianlang Guan is still set to make the cut by two shots, but 24 golfers have nine or more holes to go and are at or one back of the cut line with scoring conditions favorable today. Guan is looking good, but it's still too early to call the 14-year-old from China a lock to play the weekend.

• • •

Update 22: 3:17 EDT

Let's take a look at the leaders in the clubhouse and their rounds today – all of them punctuated by a birdie on the last hole:

• Lucas Glover, 12 under: Shot 67 with three bogeys scattered among eight birdies – including birds at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 to start his day.

• Boo Weekley, 11 under: Shot 68, starting his day with an eagle and birdieing three of four holes as he made the turn but bogeying two holes down the stretch.

• Morgan Hoffman, 9 under: Shot 69, his only bogey coming at No. 7 before birdieing three of the next four.

• Ernie Els, 8 under: Also shot 69, three bogeys in five holes after making the turn offsetting half his birdies on the day.

Five more golfers ended the day at 7 under through 36 holes: Jerry Kelly and Jeff Maggert posting 67, Brian Davis and Justin Rose posting 69 and Bobby Gates 70.

• • •

Update 21: 3:03 EDT

First-round leader Ricky Barnes' par streak ends – but with a bogey at No. 8 that drops him five shots back of leader Lucas Glover. Barnes and D.A. Points, who's 1 under today through five holes, are the only two afternoon golfers among a group of seven at T-5.

• • •

Update 20: 2:52 EDT

A birdie at No. 18 helps Morgan Hoffman become the third player to reach 9 under, following his first-round 66 with a 69 and heading to the clubhouse alone in third place. Ricky Barnes pars again to remain even for the day at 8 under.

• • •

Update 19: 2:36 EDT

Tianlang Guan finishes with another par – playing Nos. 5-9 in the same fashion as Thursday – and wraps things up at 3 under. He'll wait to see where the cut settles, currently at 2 under but scores have been low today.

First-round leader Ricky Barnes remains at even par for the day through six holes, still good for T-3 at 8 under. Bobby Gates bogeys No. 7 to drop to 7 under with two holes to play.

• • •

Update 18: 2:23 EDT

Jeff Maggert has moved to 7 under going into his last hole of the day. Maggert started the day with a bogey and added six birdies from there.

Tianlang Guan gives himself another birdie opportunity on the par-4 No. 8 hole, but runs the putt past and taps in for par. He's 3 under heading to the final hole of the round.

• • •

Update 17: 2:11 EDT

Tianlang Guan reaches the 561-yard par-5 No. 7 green in three, wedging it inside 5 feet for a birdie opportunity that could prove critical – he makes the putt to move to T-41 and back to 3 under in his quest to make the cut again.

With two holes to play, Guan stands one stroke better than the projected cut of 2 under, but that line could change if afternoon groups score as well as those who teed off in the morning.

• • •

Update 16: 2:03 EDT

First-round leader Ricky Barnes is holding steady, starting his day with four pars on the back nine that he played in 6 under yesterday. He's still T-3 at 8 under with Ernie Els, Morgan Hoffmann and Bobby Gates.

The projected cut line has been posted as 2 under, but with 31 golfers in the morning groups having turned in a sub-par round (and some remain on the course), that line figures to move unless course conditions change for the worse.

• • •

Update 15: 1:50 EDT

Tianlang Guan came to the No. 6 tee having played his previous 26 holes in 5 under (he started the tournament with two bogeys and four pars), and looking good to make the cut. But a tee shot into the water leads to a bogey and drops him to 2 under, somewhat more precarious, with three holes to play.

• • •

Update 14: 1:33 EDT

More top scorers so far today, in addition to leader Lucas Glover and second-place Boo Weekley with their 67 and 68, respectively:

• 5 under: Jerry Kelly (F), George McNeill (F), Nicolas Colsaerts (16), Andres Gonzales (12).

• 4 under: Michael Letzig (F), Colt Knost (14), Jeff Maggert (14), John Peterson (13), Derek Ernst (13), Shane Lowry (12).

• • •

Update 13: 1:18 EDT

Lucas Glover follows Boo Weekley's lead and birdies his closing hole of the day, reaching the par-5 No. 18 green in three and making about a 20-foot putt. He's in the clubhouse at 12 under.

First-round leader Ricky Barnes pars his first hole of the day. Ernie Els closes his day by joining Barnes at 8 under, birdieing No. 9 – and Bobby Gates also moves to 8 under with a birdie at No. 2, his second in four holes.

Tianlang Guan knocks his approach shot to within 10 feet at the 482-yard, par-4 No. 4 hole – and makes another birdie putt to move to 3 under, good for T-42. He's birdied three of his last seven holes.

• • •

Update 12: 1:09 EDT

Boo Weekley moves back into a share of the lead, hitting it close at the par-3 No. 9 and making a birdie putt to head to the clubhouse tied with Lucas Glover at 11 under. It's Weekley's third birdie of the week on par 3s.

Morgan Hoffman moves into a tie for third with first-round leader Ricky Barnes, who began his round just minutes ago. After starting the day with six straight pars and then a bogey, he's birdied three of his last four holes.

• • •

Update 11: 1:01 EDT

Boo Weekley bogeys again, his second in 3 holes, dropping to 10 under and still with a hold on second place. Leader Lucas Glover also gives a stroke back to the field with a bogey at No. 17 and drops to 11 under.

Tianlang Guan pars No. 3 and holds steady at 2 under with six holes left for his day. The 14-year-old from China will be looking to match his made-cut feat two weeks ago at the Masters, where he earned low-amateur honors.

• • •

Update 10: 12:44 EDT

Leader Lucas Glover and second-place Boo Weekley card pars again to remain steady atop the leaderboard, each with two holes to play.

Chris DiMarco gets to 7 under with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 10-11 and is among 10 golfers at T-4.

• • •

Update 9: 12:32 EDT

At the 399-yard par-4 No. 1, Tianlang Guan puts it close in two – and sinks a short birdie putt to move to 2 under, good for T-48 with the afternoon groups yet to begin their second round.

• • •

Update 8: 12:21 EDT

Boo Weekley's first bogey of the day comes at the par-4 No. 6 hole, dropping him to 11 under with three holes left in his second round. He's a shot back of Lucas Glover, who pars No. 14.

The group at 7 under, tied for fourth, has grown to 10 golfers.

• • •

Update 7: 12:09 EDT

Lucas Glover ties for the lead again with a birdie at No. 13, his seventh of the day, and moves to 12 under alongside Boo Weekley.

Tianlang Guan tackles the par-5 No. 18 in familar fashion for the 14-year-old from China: Wedging onto the green in 3. He lags close and taps in to remain 1 under for the day and the tournament, T-68.

• • •

Update 6: 12:01 EDT

Andres Gonzalez is 5 under through seven holes – with eagles on Nos. 1 and 7. That matches leader Boo Weekley and Jerry Kelly for the low round in progress today.

Another three golfers are 4 under so far today: Lucas Glover (through 12 holes), Nicolas Colsaerts and David Hearn (10 each).

• • •

Update 5: 11:52 EDT

The group at 7 under grows again, as scoring conditions apparently are favorable once more at TPC Louisiana. Gary Woodland birdies No. 2, his second in three holes, to get to 3 under for the day.

Tianlang Guan pars the par-3 No. 8 hole to remain 1 under, T-64. It's too early for a projected cut line, though.

• • •

Update 4: 11:43 EDT

Lucas Glover birdies the par-5 No. 11 hole to get back to 11 under, his sixth birdie of the day to overshadow two bogeys. Glover's alone in second. Leader Boo Weekley pars Nos. 3-4 to stay 5 under through 12 holes and a shot ahead of Glover at 12 under.

Jerry Kelly moves to 7 under with a birdie at No. 11. Like Weekley, he's 5 under for the day.

• • •

Update 3: 11:35 EDT

Tianlang Guan birdies the par-4 No. 7 to get back to 1 under, good for T-65. Guan started his day with pars at Nos. 10-12, then birdied the par-4 No. 13 and bogeyed the par-3 No. 14. He started the day at even par.

• • •

Update 2: 11:23 EDT

Let's take a look at the golfers in the Zurich Classic who are among the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking:

• Justin Rose (No. 4), 2 under through 10; 6 under for the tourney.

• Keegan Bradley (No. 13), 2 over through 10, 1 under for the tourney.

• Bubba Watson (No. 16), 1-over 73 Thursday; tees off at 1:30 EDT.

• Jason Dufner (No. 20), 2-under 70 Thursday; tees off at 1:30 EDT.

• • •

Update 1: 11:14 EDT

Boo Weekley moves into the lead on his own with a birdie at No. 2 – his third in four holes. He's 5 under today after starting out with an eagle, then staying bogey-free.

Lucas Glover bogeys No. 10 to drop to 10 under, alone in second. And Ernie Els follows back-to-back birdies at Nos. 17-18 with a bogey at No. 1, dropping to 7 under and T-4 with Rickie Fowler, Bobby Gates and Matt Jones. Interestingly, all four golfers at 7 under are 2 under today.

• • •

Early risers

Starting the day tied for second, Lucas Glover and Boo Weekley are 4 under with a 3-shot lead over Thursday leader Ricky Barnes – and Ernie Els, another early riser Friday who is 3 under so far in the second round. Michael Letzig is 5 under through 11 holes after an even-par first round.

• • •

Slow starters

Billy Horschel is 3 over on his front nine today, still 2 under for the tourney as he looks to extend his cuts-made streak, the longest active streak on tour. Troy Matteson also is 3 over, while Greg Owen is 4 over today; both had started the day 4 over.

• • •

Weather conditions

Temps are in the low 70s and highs should be around 80, with wind speeds similar to yesterday when they weren't much of a factor. Very little chance of rain as TPC Louisiana continues to dry out from Wednesday's heavy rains.
