Woodland wins Reno-Tahoe over Byrd, Romero
Gary Woodland won the Stableford-scored Reno-Tahoe Open by nine points over Jonathan Byrd and Andres Romero on Sunday at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno, Nevada.
Woodland's 16 points in the third round paced his win, as his seven-point fourth round was led by three birdies on his final five holes – and that was enough to hold off a charge by Byrd, who scored 18 points in Sunday's final round. Romero held onto a tie for second with an 8-point final round.
The winner of the 2011 Transitions Championship, Woodland had finished T-16 three times this season. The Kansas product takes home $540,000 – and locks up his Tour card for two more seasons.
Brendan Steele was fourth with 33 points, while David Mathis and Dicky Pride were T-5 another point back. Seung-Yul Noh and Rory Sabbatini tied for seventh, with Chris DiMarco and Johnson Wagner rounding out the top 10.
There is no opposite-field event next week during the PGA Championship. The Wyndham Championship, in Greensboro, N.C., follows the season's final major.
