In a move extending its commitment to the World Golf Championships, Bridgestone announced a 4-year deal continuing its title sponsorship of the invitational tournament at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

Along with a renewal of its "official marketing partner" status with the PGA Tour, the agreement makes Bridgestone "one of the largest partners within the PGA Tour family," according to commissioner Tim Finchem.

More importantly, the sponsorship deal ensures stability for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, which first attracted the Japanese tire manufacturer for the title role in 2006 and now will have its support through 2018.

In a written statement released Aug. 4, Bridgestone CEO Maasaki Tsuya said: “Golf’s increasing global reach, as well as the international scope of the World Golf Championships align closely with Bridgestone’s long history in the sport…. This sponsorship will further enhance the power of the Bridgestone brand and continue to provide additional worldwide channels for us to grow.”

Bridgestone has used the PGA platform not only to market its brand and products in the U.S. and in Japan, but across Asia.
