Mahan making first start since becoming a father

Hunter Mahan is making his first start since his wife, Kandi, gave birth to the couple's first child, Zoe Olivia.
Mahan made headlines when he withdrew before the third round of the RBC Canadian Open on July 27 while in the lead. He made the return trip home to Dallas in time for the birth of their little girl.
“Obviously it feels great,” said the proud new father. “It was nice to be there for the birth and everything and to whole process was fantastic.”
But ever since Mahan found out his wife was pregnant, he had been asking other PGA Tour players for advice on how to maintain his family priorities along with his career.
“I talked to like Justin Leonard and guys like Matt Kuchar and (Brandt) Sneds. It seemed intimidating to me at first before I had her, but now kind of having her, I kind of realized that is – I feel like its easier, because now its family and golf.
“Maybe some other things to do and maybe we'll travel, but I know we'll always be together. I know they have no real interest in being apart for that long.”
Mahan is back at it this week at Oak Hill Country Club and is ready to be in that final pairing yet again at a major.
“I’ve just got to keep working, keep getting better at my all-around game and I think I’ll get there,” Mahan said. “I feel very excited and encouraged about what I’ve done, and excited about this week.”
