Kathleen Takaishi has been named head women’s golf coach at the University of Nevada. Takaishi, 37, spent the past 5 1/2 seasons as the head coach at Portland State.

“Kathleen has a proven track record of winning championships by recruiting and developing high-caliber student-athletes,” Nevada athletic director Doug Knuth said. “We are thrilled to have Kathleen join the Wolf Pack family and lead our women’s golf team to new heights.”

While at Portland State, Takaishi guided the Vikings to three Big Sky Championships and was twice named Big Sky Coach of the Year. The Vikings also earned NCAA regional berths in 2008, ’10 and ’11.

Takaishi is a native of San Bernadino, Calif., and was a four-year letter-winner at Oregon State (1995-99). After competing professionally for three years, Takaishi began her coaching career as an assistant at UC Riverside in 2002. She returned to Oregon State as an assistant coach in February 2004 before landing at Portland State four years later.

“I would like to thank Doug Knuth and the search committee for this opportunity,” Takaishi said. “I am looking forward to being a part of the Wolf Pack family. The future of this program is very bright, and I am excited to have the opportunity to lead this team.”

Nevada finished the 2012-13 season ranked No. 90 by Golfweek.
