2012-13 Golfweek rank: 18
Go-to girl: Bertine Strauss
Season outlook: Last season's Longhorns didn’t win as a team, nor did any players win individually, but this still wasn't a team to overlook thanks to the experience of seniors Desiree Dubreuil, Madison Pressel, Katelyn Sepmoree and Haley Stephens.
With that quartet gone, this season's much younger squad will be led by junior Bertine Strauss, who had five top-5 finishes in 11 tournaments, finished at No. 88 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings and was the only underclassman to play more than 18 rounds in 2012-13. Sophomores Tezira Abe and Natalie Karcher are likely to join her in the lineup. Abe’s best finish was T-10 at the Mason Rudolph, her first collegiate event, and Karcher’s was T-19 at the Betsy Rawls Invitational.
If Strauss, Abe and Karcher can take big steps forward with their games and head coach Martha Richards can use the fall to get her young players like the addition of freshman, Julia Beck, acclimated to bigger roles, it might be enough for Texas to make a spring run and a return trip to the NCAA finals.
