2012-13 Golfweek rank: 28
Go-to girl: Junior Madelene Sagstrom
Season outlook: The unexpected departure of Austin Ernst after her sophomore season didn’t help the Tigers in 2012-13, as the team failed to advance to the NCAA Championships after a third-place finish in 2012.
Madelene Sagstrom took over the No. 1 position and led the Tigers with a 73.59 stroke average and six top-20 finishes, including back-to-back runners-up at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Seniors Lindsay Gahm and Ali Lucas and sophomores Nadine Dreher and Elise Bradley also are back after each playing in at least nine events a year ago. Gahm was the most consistent Tiger down the stretch, posting top-16 finishes at each of LSU’s last four events.
The Tigers may have taken their lumps at times last year, but the experience gained should pay dividends this season. Freshman Carly Ray Goldstein of Coral Springs, Fla., also will contend for playing time. She won her 100th career junior title this summer.
