Both JC Anderson and Bob Sowards were added to the 10-man U.S. team for the upcoming 26th PGA Cup, to be held at the Slaley Hall's Hunting Course in Northumberland, England from Sept. 20-22.

Anderson and Sowards will join the likes of Rod Perry, Mike Small and Matt Dobyns in facing the GB&I squad highlighted by Dan Greenwood.

The U.S. team was determined on Friday night at the PGA Championship, ending a two-year points system that is made up of the last two PGA Professional National Championships and two PGA Championships.

The U.S. team has six rookies and four veterans, with Small, Sowards, Chip Sullivan and Mark Sheftic having played in eight overall PGA Cups and own a 16-17-3 record. The remaining team is Kelly Mitchum, Ryan Polzin and Jeff Sorenson.

“We have an outstanding mix of talent and veteran experience,” said U.S. captain Allen Wronowski. “I have been fortunate to be in the Team Room at a Ryder Cup and a PGA Cup, and the key is to have everyone feel comfortable with one another. You have to listen to the players and feel who they are comfortable playing with, and then go from there. The PGA Cup is a rare opportunity to represent the red, white and blue. You rarely have such an opportunity in a lifetime.”

The GB&I squad is composed of 10 rookies, a record since the event first began in 1973 at Pinehurst. Russell Weir will lead the squad for the second consecutive PGA Cup and will try to put a 17.5-8.5 loss in 2011 behind him. The U.S. also owns a 17-5-3 overall record in the series, with the last GB&I win coming in 2005 in Ireland.

“I learned a lot having watched the past PGA Cup, and found that I can do a much better job now,” said Weir, who competed in a record-tying eight PGA Cups from 1986 through 2000. “Having watched the Glenmuir PGA Championship, I feel that we have a very strong team. I was impressed how well that they handled the difficult playing conditions in June. That ability to handle adversity and having played the course gives them an advantage. They know where the difficult places are on the course. However, the Americans also will bring an outstanding team and they will find their own way to get adjusted to the course.”

Beyond Greenwood, the GB&I teams consists of Gareth Wright, Benn Barham, Jon Barnes, Nick Brennan, David Callaway, Graham Fox, Scott Henderson, Richard Wallis and Greig Hutcheon.
