21. Clemson

2012-13 Golfweek ranking: 33

Go-to guy: Stephen Behr

Season outlook: Clemson failed to advance to the NCAA Championship last season, marking only the fifth time in 24 years that the Tigers have not made it out of NCAA regionals. But last year’s Clemson squad was a young one, with just one senior – Crawford Reeves – in head coach Larry Penley's postseason lineup. Sophomore Billy Kennerly and three freshmen – Stephen Behr, Miller Capps and Cody Proveaux – rounded out the starting five.

Behr led the team with a 72.97 scoring average last season and three top-7 finishes, and Capps posted two top 3s. Proveaux already has proved himself on the junior level, and with a college season under his belt look for him to have a breakout year after notching just one top 10 as a freshman. Kennerly led the team with six rounds in the 60s, including his last five rounds of the season on his way to top 10s at the ACC Championship and NCAA regionals.

Penley adds two more top freshmen this season in Carson Young and Austin Langdale, high school teammates out of nearby Pendleton, S.C., who will push the four returnees. Young won the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in April, then captured the South Carolina Amateur this summer, a tournament Proveaux won last year. Young also won the 2012 Carolinas Amateur. Langdale was runner-up at Sage Valley and won the Azalea Invitational in March.
