Northwestern Mutual bolsters role with Tiger's event

Elevating its role in Tiger Woods' tournament, Northwestern Mutual announced today that it will serve as title sponsor of this year's event in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The Northwestern Mutual World Challenge, scheduled for Dec. 5-8 at Sherwood Country Club, offers a $1 million payout to the champion. Recognized by the PGA Tour as an unofficial event, the tournament benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation's college-access initiatives.
In 2012, the financial-services company based in Milwaukee was the presenting sponsor of the event. Similarities in the objectives of the foundation and the company, in part, spurred greater involvement by Northwestern Mutual.
"Northwestern Mutual shares a common goal to improve educational success, health and development of children and families so they have bright futures ahead of them," said Conrad York, the company's vice president of marketing.
At the 2012 World Challenge, Graeme McDowell shot a 4-under-par 68 to finish at 17-under 271 to win by three shots over Keegan Bradley. The tournament, featuring an elite 18-player field, offers Official World Golf Ranking points.
