2012-13 Golfweek rank: First season
Go-to girl: Ashlan Ramsey
Season outlook: Clemson hasn’t played a single collegiate tournament and starts its inaugural season with an all-freshman roster, but with the recruiting head coach J.T. Horton has done, expect the Tigers to make an immediate impact in the Atlantic Coast Conference and maybe even nationally.
Ashlan Ramsey won four amateur titles – the Georgia Women’s Match Play, Women’s Eastern Amateur, Women’s Western Amateur and Georgia Women's Amateur – this summer and is ranked No. 1 in Golfweek's amateur rankings and No. 3 in its junior rankings. Ramsey, who doesn't turn 18 until December, also was runner-up at the Women's Trans Amateur, reached the quarterfinals of the North & South Women's Amateur and advanced to match play at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
McKenzie Talbert, Jessica Hoang and Sloan Shanahan join Ramsey as the Tigers' other true freshmen. All four were ranked among Golfweek's top 45 in the Class of 2013 when they signed last fall. They fill out a roster that also includes redshirt freshmen Lauren Salazar and Taylor Ramsey, Ashley's sister, both of whom enrolled last year and heard plenty from Horton about work ethic and leadership. The older two players will be key in keeping their young teammates on the right path early.
